WHAT? Surly makes great beer. We also make great food. We are an award winning kitchen and we are looking for cooks that strive for excellence. The Beer Hall is looking for a qualified Line Cook for FULL TIME WORK.

WHO? Must have a willingness to learn, be eager to advance, able to take direction well and work successfully in a team oriented environment. You must have Thursday - Sunday availability. After 60 days, this position offers some kick ass benefits, including health insurance, dental insurance, 401K, beer, discounts on all Surly gear/food and drink. Pay starts at $14/hour.

Our Line Cooks must retain a passion for cooking and propensity for accuracy and efficiency. Basic qualifications include:

High school diploma or GED, 2-5 years of kitchen experience, or combination of education and experience required

Knowledge of equipment and tools including basic kitchen machinery and maintenance.

Able to work 8-12 hours efficiently while maintaining diligence and quality in all aspects of the job.

Able to perform physical work in a loud environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on the restaurant’s needs; may include nights, weekends and holidays.

The Line Cook’s responsibilities include kitchen duties including: to cook, prepare and present the food efficiently; keep the kitchen area clean, tidy and hygienic all the time. The Line Cook reports to the Sous Chef. Basic responsibilities include:

Prepare food according to production schedules while ensuring the highest level of food quality, taste and presentation.

Correctly prepare all food served following standard recipes and special diet orders.

Plan food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food is preserved.

Apportion food for serving.

Maintain daily production records.

Keep work area neat and clean at all times; clean and maintain equipment used in food preparation.

Complete food temperature checks before service.

Wipe up any spills to ensure kitchen floors remain clean and dry. Sweep/mop floors.

Communicates any known mechanical/raw material/food quality issues, including inventory discrepancies to supervisor.

Understands that cleanliness, safety and sanitation are the arena of the gods. Maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe work environment (sweeps, mops, vacuums, keeps aisles clear, etc.) is required.

Works courteously and professionally with all vendors and co-workers. Calmly and tactfully manages difficult or emotional vendor situations. Respects all Surly staff and understand that no one person is more important than another

Brings potentially systematic problems that require immediate action to the attention of the Sous Chef

Any other responsibilities as assigned by Chefs
