The Cable Station Engineer has direct responsibility for performing the engineering and on-site installation supervision of telecommunications equipment and related telecom infrastructure at one or more sites anywhere in the world. The Cable Station Engineer reports to the Senior Manager – Cable Station Engineering & Installation.


Responsibilities & Qualifications


The Cable Station Engineer will conduct site surveys; prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings; Power, Signal, Alarm, and Optical assignments, Bills of Material, Methods of Procedure and related engineering drawings and specifications.

The Cable Station Engineer will need to have a thorough understanding and knowledge of all the equipment being deployed in a cable station (i.e. central office / data center). This knowledge will be gained from applying knowledge based on past experience as well as on the job training at TE SubCom.

This position will oversee the installation of terminal equipment and related telecom equipment and infrastructure. Both hands-on and managing subcontracted installers is a responsibility of the Cable Station Engineer.

The Cable Station Engineer will frequently interface with various disciplines within TE SubCom, including Purchasing, Project Management, Supplier Management, R&D, Accounting, Warehousing, and Shipping.

Writing of status reports, technical statements of work in conjunction with requesting quotations from potential installation sub-contractors, site survey reports, installation completion reports, and other reports as required. In addition, great use is made of email, as this is the best vehicle to use when overseas, due to the large time differences involved.

Frequent customer interface at the installation site. This is a particularly important aspect of the job, as many times the Cable Station Engineer will be the only TE SubCom representative on the site in a foreign country. He/She will need to favorably shape a customer’s opinion of TE SubCom. As such, the Cable Station Engineer must be very adept at personally interacting with our international customers in a very positive and non-confrontational manner.

Frequent international travel is required, including Orange-listed countries and select Red-listed countries may be required. While travel will be based on business needs, the Cable Station Engineer will be required to travel at least 30-40% of the time, up to 50-60% of the time. Typically, this travel takes the form of performing site surveys which are typically one to two weeks in duration. The majority of the travel is being on site for the entire duration of an installation, which could be from four to eight weeks. After the installation is complete, the Cable Station Engineer would return back to the office in Eatontown, NJ to perform administrative duties and begin the engineering for the next site to be installed. So the cycle is typically office based engineering, on-site supervision of the installation, then back to the office to start the cycle for a new site or project.


BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Computer Science Engineering.

Past experience in field implementation of undersea cable systems or central office engineering & installation is strongly desired.

Other telecommunications experience either engineering or installing fiber optic transmission, network management, and DC Plant equipment would also be desirable.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must, due to the high degree of customer interaction required.

Ability to work under pressured deadlines while remaining positive and flexible. Must possess a positive, “can do” attitude.

A high level of PC proficiency, must be able to effectively use the Microsoft Office software line, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
